Benefits
Benefits to patients and practice.
The health Pods are optimised to contribute to the maintenance and monitoring of health and possible diagnosis of disease in the community.
The health kiosks allow patients who wouldn’t normally visit a nurse or HCA to have their Blood Pressure taken and anyone with high or low readings can be seen asap by a health professional.
Flexibility – Patients can take routine assessments on the monitor at a time convenient to them with no need for an appointment.
New monitors can sometimes be much easier to use than existing set-ups
Allows for early identification of problems by ‘opportunistic’ visits.
Assist and support the delivery of the consistent calibrated scales for weigh in of patients.
Some patients have to lose weight before they can have an operation so they are able to go to their local library or surgery everyday to get exact weight measurements.
Self-Health monitors provide a baseline and ongoing measurement of health and wellbeing to encourage behavioural changes and empower users to manage their own health better.
Saves clinical time in appts as assessments have already been completed e.g. for Nurses running Chronic Conditions Clinics, New Pt Checks, Contraceptive pill checks, routine BP monitoring.
Improves patient flow – streamlines the patient journey without compromising on care.
Free’s up appointment time for other patients.
Reduces pressure on Reception as Pts don’t need to phone and make an appointment to use the monitors but would need to do this for HCA/Nurse appointment to check.
Increases the recording of BMI / BP amongst the practice population.
Evidence that easy to use Health Monitors in GP practice waiting rooms encourages patients to
opportunistically use them whilst waiting for their appointments.
New Healthcare waiting room monitors provide an alternative for patients with hypertension who are unwilling or unable to monitor at home.
Space-saving – new Healthcare Monitor kiosks take up much less space than the current set up in practices (usually separate
blood pressure monitors plus weighing scales each with their own separate screens).
Codes results straight into patient records (currently results have to be manually input).
Increases the accuracy of results – existing models are difficult for patients to use leading to poor technique and erroneous results. Additionally current practice health monitoring systems are old, broken or frequently breaking down, are incomplete and cumbersome.
